歓迎式典Speech

サンドバーグミドルスクール歓迎式典での校長スピーチです。

みなさん、おはようございます。歓迎会を開いていただき、ありがとうございます。

Good morning everyone.  Thank you for having the welcome ceremony for us.

最初に、去年３月１１日の東日本大震災後に、サンドバーグミドルスクールやセラーズ小学校の皆さんから、たくさんの寄付をいただきましたことに感謝申し上げます。復興のために活用させていただきました。

First, I want to express our thanks for the many donations from everyone at Sandburg Middle School and Sellers Elementary School following the Tohoku Earthquake last March 11th.  They have been put to use for reconstruction.

また、ベル校長先生からお見舞いのメールをいただきました。
もう一度、みなさんの親切やたくさんの寄付に感謝申し上げます。

Also, thank you Principal Bell for your sympathetic email.
Let me once again thank everyone for your kindness and donations.

地震の時に福島県にある原子力発電所が被害を受けました。真岡市から90マイルの距離です。地震から1年8ヶ月が過ぎましたが、放射能についての心配はいまだに解決されていません。中村中学校でも毎週火曜日に放射線量を測定しています。

During the earthquake, the nuclear power station in Fukushima Prefecture was damaged.  The distance there from Moka City is 90 miles.  One year and eight months have passed since the earthquake, but the issue of radioactivity has not been resolved.  Even at Nakamura Junior High School, the radiation level is still checked every Tuesday.

私は中村中学校の生徒がこの交流プログラムの中でたくさんのことを学び、グレンドーラ市と真岡市もサンドバーグミドルスクールと中村中学校の「絆」がさらに深まることを願っています。

I am hopeful that the students of Nakamura Junior High School will learn a lot from this exchange program, and that the 絆 “kizuna” (bond) between Glendora and Moka City, and between Sandburg Middle School and Nakamura Junior High School will become even deeper.  


今年は龍の絵に「絆」と書いた絵を持ってきました。龍は日本では守り神とされ、龍の絵は縁起がいいとされています。「絆」という漢字は人と人との強い結びつきをを意味しています。私たちの友情の象徴としてぴったりだと思って持ってきました。あとでよく観てください。

This year I brought a picture of a dragon with 絆 “kizuna” written on it.  Dragons are known as the gods that protect Japan, and a picture of a dragon is believed to bring good fortune.  The character 絆 “kizuna” means a strong bond between people.  I brought this, thinking that it suits our friendship well.  Please take a close look at it later.

最後に、私と１３人の生徒達はグレンドーラに来るのは初めてです。この交流プログラムを自分を向上させるためすばらしい機会ととらえ、１日１日を大切に過ごしたいと思います。よろしくお願いします。

Finally, let me tell you that this is my first time coming to Glendora with our thirteen students.  In taking this great chance to improve this exchange program and myself, I plan to live each day to the fullest.  With our kindest regards,

みなさん、こんにちは。私は中村中学校長のoura masamiです。
私たちを温かく迎えてくれてありがとうございます。

Hello everyone.  I am the Principal of Nakamura Junior High School, Masami Oura.  Thank you very much for the warm welcome.

毎年、交流の記念Tシャツを作っていますが、今年は胸に「絆」という漢字をプリントしたものを持ってきました。「絆」とは人と人との強い結びつきを意味しています。

Every year we make a commemorative t-shirt, and this year, 絆 “kizuna” is going to be printed on the front.  The character 絆 “kizuna” means a strong bond between people. 

東日本大震災の時に、みなさんから受けた親切を表現するにはぴったりの漢字だと、スタッフの意見が一致して決めました。

After the Tohoku Earthquake, our staff unanimously agreed that this is the perfect character to express the kindness we received from you all.

これからのホームスティや色々なプログラムをとおして、ますます「絆」が深まると思ってます。どうぞ、よろしくお願いいたします。

As we continue with the homestay and other programs, I believe our “kizuna” will deepen more and more.  We give you our kindest regards.

交流記念Tシャツ

11月8日に出発するグレンドーラ市サンドバーグミドルスクールへ持っていく交流記念のTシャツです。
今年は胸に「絆」という漢字をプリントしました。東日本大震災の時にサンドバーグミドルスクールなどの人達に受けた親切(募金をしてくれました)を表現するのにぴったりだということで決めました。
